Tax Rates
For general tax circumstances in Illinois, see the "Taxes" section of the Illinois Overview, on this site, righte menu, under "SW ILLINOIS", where real estate taxes, sales taxes, gasoline taxes and income taxes are described. Illinois relies primarily on local real estate taxes and income taxes to support local schools….(with dependence on real estate more, and income taxes less, than in neighboring Missouri.) Here's a breakdown of a typical 2010 real estate tax bill for O'Fallon, (the bill payable 2011.)
This shows that the bulk of local real estate taxes go to local schools. The following chart is typical.
Obviously, the breakdown shows exactly where the tax money goes, too, and the preponderance goes to local schools. Real Estate Taxes in the O'Fallon area are not out of line with other communities in SW Illinois. Illinois also provides for some deductions against real estate taxes on all owner-occupied homes, and other deductions for senior citizens. Resources available from us: ( also posted in our Library, under "SW Illinois", and "Data and Demographics") include the following.
