This is one of the most delightful day trips anywhere....and it's "winter fun" because that's when the Bald Eagles of the upper midwest go south for their food supply. Feeding almost entirely on fish, when the rivers ice over up north, the eagles come south, and they follow that edge pretty closely. They aren't really migrating....they are following their food supply. The best eagle watching therefore, in our area, is after a prolonged cold spell. (Or, we could go north to find more of them!)
